Samsung unveils specs for Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra ahead of launch

Summary

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra were detailed in a leak, revealing display sizes, processors, camera setups, battery capacities and pricing.

Samsung is set to launch two new foldable smartphones next week, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, according to a leak from a typically reliable source. The Fold8 will feature a 7.6-inch main folding display with a 2448x1848 resolution and a 5.5-inch cover screen, both running at 120 Hz and built on a titanium substrate to reduce crease visibility. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with either 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB/512 GB of storage, or 16 GB of RAM with 1 TB of storage. The device will be offered in Graphite, Cream, Lavender and an online-exclusive Pistachio color, weigh 201 g, and start at €1,999 in Germany.

"The Fold8 is designed to retain at least 80% of its initial battery capacity after 1,200 charge cycles," the leak notes.

Its camera array includes a 50 MP main sensor (f/1.8) and a 50 MP ultrawide sensor (f/1.9), with two 10 MP front cameras. The phone houses a 4,800 mAh battery supporting 45 W wired and wireless charging, and carries an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Fold8 Ultra, positioned as the successor to last year’s Fold7, will have a 7.6-inch internal folding screen with a higher 2256x2504 resolution and a 6.5-inch cover display at 1080x2520, both with 120 Hz refresh rates. It shares the same Snapdragon chipset and RAM/storage options as the Fold8. Its rear camera system upgrades to a 200 MP main sensor with OIS (f/1.7), a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3× optical zoom (f/2.4), and a new 50 MP ultrawide sensor (f/1.9). Front cameras remain at 10 MP. The Ultra is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, also supporting 45 W wired and wireless charging, and is rated to maintain 80% capacity after 1,200 cycles. Weighing 218 g and measuring 4.1 mm thick when unfolded, it will be available in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow and an online-exclusive Green Shadow, with a starting price of €2,199.
