Attorney Ben Crump to Meet with District Attorney on Nolan Wells Death Investigation

Summary

The investigation results in Nolan Wells' death will be submitted to a grand jury, and an independent review of his cell phone will be conducted, officials said.

Attorney Ben Crump will meet with Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing investigation into the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells. The parties plan to hold a news conference after the meeting to provide updates on the case.

Officials said the investigation findings will be turned over to a grand jury once the inquiry is complete. An independent analysis of Wells' cell phone will be coordinated by Crump's team, with law-enforcement agencies also reviewing the device.

Wells, a Southwest Mississippi Community College football player, was found dead in the water near Horn Island on July 6 after disappearing on a July 4 boat outing with friends. The cause of death has not yet been determined, and an independent autopsy is pending.

His mother, Christine Wonsley, announced that funeral services will be held at Center Pointe Church in Ocean Springs on Monday, with visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Actor Tyler Perry has contributed to covering the funeral expenses, according to Crump.

"We will continue to seek answers for Nolan and his family," Crumb said in a statement.

The case remains under investigation.
