Former child actress Daveigh Chase's estate valued at about $400,000
Probate filings show the late actress left an estate of roughly $400,000, with her mother seeking administration after Chase died at 35 while experiencing homelessness.
Probate documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court indicate that former child actress Daveigh Chase, whose legal name was Daveigh Elizabeth Schwallier, left an estate of approximately $400,000 in personal property. Her mother, Cathy Chase, submitted the paperwork and petitioned to serve as the estate’s administrator.
The filings note that Chase died on June 16 at age 35 without a will and was survived only by her parents. The records also confirm that she was experiencing homelessness at the time of her death, with the last known address listed as a residence in Chatsworth.
Initial reports cited bacterial meningitis and a blood infection as causes of death, but the medical examiner’s report identified AIDS, caused by HIV, as the primary cause, and listed chronic polysubstance use as a significant condition.
Chase began her acting career in the late 1990s with roles on television series such as “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Charmed,” and “ER.” She gained wider recognition for her performance as Samara Morgan in “The Ring” and as the voice of Lilo in “Lilo & Stitch.” In 2001 she appeared in “Donnie Darko” and provided the English voice for Chihiro in the American dub of “Spirited Away.” Later work included recurring roles on “Oliver Beene,” “Big Love,” and a voice role in the 2016 video game “Let It Die.”
A hearing on the probate case is scheduled for August 12.
