Asus ROG Xbox Ally Handheld Expected to Launch in August With High Price Tag
Leaks suggest the Asus ROG Xbox Ally, developed in partnership with Microsoft, will be unveiled at Gamescom 2025, with pre-orders likely to open at the event and prices starting at €599.
Asus and Microsoft are expected to showcase the ROG Xbox Ally handheld gaming device at Gamescom 2025 in late August, according to recent leaks. The device, which combines Asus hardware with Microsoft branding, is positioned as a competitor to the Steam Deck and aims to expand the Xbox ecosystem beyond traditional consoles.
French technology site Dealabs has reported that pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally will begin following an Xbox presentation on August 20. The standard model is reportedly priced at €599 (approximately $690 USD), while the higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X may cost €899 (about $1,030 USD). These prices place the devices in the same range as other Windows-based portable gaming PCs, though they are significantly higher than the Steam Deck and would make the Ally X the most expensive Xbox-branded device to date.
Despite the Xbox branding, the ROG Xbox Ally runs Windows 11 and is not a traditional console. Microsoft is said to be providing interface and performance enhancements tailored for handheld use, which are expected to become available to other Windows handhelds starting in 2026.
