Judge Orders Donald Trump to Pay Over $5.6 Million to E. Jean Carroll After Jury Verdict

Summary

A federal judge ordered President Donald Trump to pay more than $5.6 million to writer E. Jean Carroll following a jury finding him liable for sexual assault and defamation.

Writer E. Jean Carroll has received a payment of $5,625,005.48, the amount awarded by a federal civil jury that found President Donald Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation. The disbursement was made to the law firm representing Carroll on July 9, according to a notice filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said the payment fulfills the jury’s award and confirmed that the funds have been transferred to Carroll.

Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan ordered Trump to pay the judgment the day before the disbursement, rejecting Trump’s attempt to avoid payment and noting that the case had been delayed for years.

Later that same day, a New York appeals court denied Trump’s request to block the collection of the money, which had been held by the court since the verdict was issued more than three years ago.

Trump’s legal team did not respond to requests for comment.
