Summary

A federal judge found that Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS was a blatant abuse of the legal system, designed to shield himself and his cronies from accountability, and referred one of his lawyers for possible disciplinary action.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams, appointed by President Barack Obama, has decisively ruled that former President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over leaked tax returns was filed for an 'improper purpose.' The court found that Trump and his allies attempted to manipulate the legal system to secure immunity from tax audits and to create a massive compensation fund for themselves, all without any legitimate legal grounds.

Judge Williams highlighted that the parties were not truly adverse, and that the so-called settlement was not the result of a fair or legitimate legal process. The $1.776 billion 'Anti-Weaponization Fund,' a transparent attempt to siphon public money for Trump’s benefit, was only abandoned after it faced bipartisan outrage.

This ruling comes just before Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, and it sends a strong message: the legal system cannot be hijacked by the powerful for personal gain. Judge Williams referred Trump attorney Alejandro Brito to the Florida State Bar for possible disciplinary action and barred Daniel Epstein from filing in the Southern District of Florida for up to a year, signaling that unethical legal tactics will not be tolerated.

Williams also sent her decision to the state bars in New York and the District of Columbia, where ethics complaints have already been filed against Blanche and Stanley Woodward for their roles in this disgraceful settlement. She raised serious concerns about Blanche and Woodward’s participation, given their history of defending Trump and January 6 insurrectionists. Predictably, Trump’s legal team refused to comment on Brito’s referral, instead trying to deflect blame onto the IRS for the tax-return leak.
