Apple to Release iOS 27 Public Beta This Week with New Siri AI Features

Summary

Apple plans to launch the iOS 27 public beta later this week, introducing a conversational Siri AI and several interface updates, while limiting the advanced assistant to newer iPhone models.

Apple is set to release the public beta of iOS 27 within days, allowing users to test the upcoming operating system ahead of its scheduled fall launch. The update will introduce a new conversational version of Siri, dubbed Siri AI, which operates similarly to large language models and can be accessed via typing or voice.

"Siri AI will be integrated across Apple devices and will include a standalone app that stores conversation history and syncs via iCloud," a company spokesperson said.

The Siri AI app will feature an iMessage-style chat view, searchable history, and options to adjust speech speed, expressiveness, voice, and language. Apple also plans to embed Siri controls directly into built-in apps through an "Ask Siri" toggle and a "Write with Siri" function.

Additional changes include moving Siri activation to the Dynamic Island on compatible iPhone models, a new slider to adjust the transparency of the Liquid Glass interface, and expanded child-safety tools for parental control. The Photos app will gain enhanced editing tools and deeper Siri integration for image search.

iOS 27 will also add a voice-driven shortcut creator and a bill-splitting feature that processes receipt photos. The operating system will be compatible with iPhone 11 and later models, but the advanced Siri AI will be limited to iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices capable of running Apple Intelligence.

Apple typically announces its new iOS versions in September following the annual iPhone event, and the company confirmed that iOS 27 will follow that timeline.
