Vinod Khosla family reaches agreement to buy Seattle Seahawks for $9.6 billion

Summary

Silicon Valley investor Vinod Khosla and his family have signed a deal to acquire the Seattle Seahawks, pending NFL approval, for about $9.6 billion.

The Khosla family has entered a definitive agreement to purchase the Seattle Seahawks for roughly $9.612 billion, according to a source familiar with the transaction. The sale, which still requires ratification by the NFL’s owners, would make the family the controlling owners of the defending Super Bowl champion.

"We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks," Vinod Khosla said in a statement. "We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere."

Paul Allen’s estate announced in February that it would begin selling the franchise, which has been owned by the Allen family since 1997. Investment bank Allen & Company and law firm Latham & Watkins are handling the process, which is expected to continue through the offseason.

Vinod Khosla, founder of the venture-capital firm Khosla Ventures and listed by Forbes with a net worth of $13.7 billion, will have to divest his minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers as part of the deal. He acquired a 3.1 % share of the 49ers in 2025.

NFL owners are slated to meet in August to vote on the purchase. The Seahawks’ lease at Lumen Field runs through 2032 with three additional ten-year options, and the team is expected to remain in Seattle after the transaction closes.

The sale follows the 2023 purchase of the Washington Commanders, which set a record at $6.05 billion. The Seahawks most recently defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in February to claim their second Super Bowl title.
