UK police arrest 28-year-old in connection with former MP Ann Widdecombe's death
A 28-year-old man was detained in South Yorkshire on suspicion of involvement in the killing of former MP Ann Widdecombe, while a previously arrested 26-year-old was released after investigators found no link.
British police detained a 28-year-old white British national on Saturday night in South Yorkshire as part of the investigation into the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe, whose body was discovered with severe injuries at her Devon home on Thursday. The arrest was made by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and South Yorkshire Police, but Devon and Cornwall Police said there is no indication the case is terrorism-related or politically motivated and that no further suspects are being sought.
The latest arrest follows a previous detention of a 26-year-old man on Friday, who was released the next day after police concluded he had no connection to the killing. Widdecombe, who retired from Parliament and later joined the Reform U.K. party, had been a prominent Brexit advocate.
