Max Holloway defeats Conor McGregor by first-round TKO at UFC 329
Max Holloway won by technical knockout in the first round after Conor McGregor injured his knee during the opening exchange of their UFC 329 welterweight bout.
Max Holloway secured a first-round technical knockout over Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 329 on Saturday. The fight ended early when McGregor suffered a right-knee injury while delivering a head kick, prompting the referee to stop the contest.
After the stoppage, both fighters exchanged a brief moment of mutual respect. The bout marked Holloway's debut at the 170-pound welterweight division; while he is not expected to remain there long-term, the opportunity to face McGregor justified the weight change.
Holloway, a former featherweight champion, indicated he remains open to future matchups, including a possible rematch with McGregor later in the year or a fight against lightweight contender Justin Gaethje. The result leaves the series between the two fighters tied at one win each.
"I'm going in there and put paws on him," Holloway said at a media event, adding that he hopes the encounter will lead to another meeting later in the year.
