Texas Rangers select Massachusetts left-hander Brody Bumila in third round of 2026 MLB Draft

Summary

The Rangers used the 89th overall pick to draft 18-year-old pitcher Brody Bumila, who is recovering from ulnar collateral ligament surgery.

The Texas Rangers chose left-handed pitcher Brody Bumila with the 89th overall selection in the third round of the 2026 Major League Baseball draft. Bumila, a 6-foot-9, 255-pound senior from Bishop Feehan High School in Massachusetts, is slated to turn 19 in January.

Scouts note that Bumila can throw a fastball that has exceeded 100 mph, delivering it from a low release point with significant extension. While his control is considered solid for a high-velocity prep pitcher, evaluators say he must improve command and develop secondary pitches such as a slider and changeup.

In addition to baseball, Bumila was a key player on his high school’s state-championship basketball team, highlighting his overall athleticism. He underwent internal-brace surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament last summer and has since been cleared to pitch, though recent reports confirm lingering UCL damage.

Bumila had previously committed to the University of Texas, but the Rangers are expected to sign him after selecting him in the third round.
