A spokesperson for Senator Mitch McConnell said he remains in the hospital and is continuing to recover, while Kentucky officials have called for more information about his health.
A spokesperson for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell told reporters on Saturday that the 84-year-old lawmaker "continues his recovery in the hospital" and that the Senate will provide updates as his condition improves. The senator was found unconscious at his Washington, D.C., residence on June 14, prompting a 911 call that requested advanced life support, according to earlier reports.
The spokesperson added that McConnell is working with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters despite the Senate being out of session. "In the meantime, Senator McConnell appreciates the support he's receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital," the statement said.
A neighbor captured video of an ambulance and emergency vehicles outside McConnell's home on the day of the incident, which was later shared with news outlets. Capitol Police blocked the street, and a person was taken on a stretcher without an oxygen mask.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has publicly asked McConnell for a health update, saying the lack of information has led to growing concern among Kentuckians. In a letter and a social-media post, Beshear urged the senator to provide a clear statement to end speculation.
