Linda Noskova wins Wimbledon women's singles after comeback from championship points
Czech teenager Linda Noskova defeated Karolina Muchova 6-2 5-7 6-3 to claim her first Grand Slam title, becoming the third Czech champion at Wimbledon in four years.
Linda Noskova rallied from five championship points down to beat fellow Czech Karolina Muchova in a three-set final at Wimbledon, securing a 6-2 5-7 6-3 victory. The 21-year-old had led 6-2 5-2 before Muchova won five consecutive games to force a deciding set, after which Noskova recovered and closed the match with an ace on her final championship point.
"It feels incredible. Physically and mentally it has been tough – it is never easy to get the last point," Noskova said in the post-match interview.
She thanked her family, noting the memory of her mother, Ivana, who died two years earlier, and expressed gratitude to her father for traveling to the tournament. The win earned Noskova the iconic Venus Rosewater Dish, £3.6 million in prize money and a rise to seventh in the world rankings.
Muchova, the 2024 Olympic doubles partner of Noskova, congratulated her opponent, saying, "The way you handled it and the way you played was unbelievable. You deserve it."
Noskova became the third Czech player to win the Wimbledon women's singles title in the past four editions, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. Her victory also places her among a small group of players – alongside Venus Williams (2005) and Serena Williams (2009) – who have won the title after saving match points.
