NBA teams use voice memos through agent to court LeBron James

Summary

Several NBA franchises have recorded voice messages for LeBron James, delivered via his agent Rich Paul, as his free-agency decision enters its second week.

LeBron James' free-agency deliberations have entered a second week, and some interested NBA teams are using a novel approach to reach the veteran star. Sources told ESPN that Rich Paul, James' agent and CEO of Klutch Sports, has been passing voice recordings from team executives to James on his behalf.

Bob Myers, president of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Philadelphia 76ers, appeared on the "Game Over" podcast with Paul and co-host Max Kellerman to outline the Sixers' case for James. Other franchises, according to the same sources, have had owners, presidents or general managers record similar memos.

It is not known whether the Cleveland Cavaliers or Miami Heat have employed the tactic, given James' prior tenure with both clubs. James continues to review information from each suitor, with one source noting there is "no timetable" for his decision. He has been spending recent weeks with family, friends and on the golf course, indicating no immediate pressure to decide.

Paul has previously informed teams that compensation will not be the primary factor for James, allowing clubs to proceed with roster moves without waiting for his final choice.
