Former 'Storage Wars' star Darrell Sheets died by suicide, left note citing online bullying
Darrell Sheets, 67, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot at his Arizona home; a handwritten note referenced ongoing cyberbullying, and police are investigating the alleged online harasser.
Darrell Sheets, a longtime cast member of the reality series “Storage Wars,” was discovered dead at his Lake Havasu City, Arizona residence on April 22. The Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death as a suicide by self-inflicted gunshot. An incident report released by the Lake Havasu City Police Department said investigators found a handwritten note in a bathroom closet near the scene, which read, "I could not take anymore the Facebook bulling."
Police interviewed the individual identified as the alleged cyberbully, who denied involvement and claimed he was not in Arizona at the time of Sheets’ death. The suspect also reported receiving death threats and declined to answer further questions.
Sheets’ girlfriend recounted that earlier in the evening he appeared upset after receiving a text from his daughter-in-law alleging that she was suspicious and stealing money from him. She said Sheets was “sad and upset” about the messages. Later, she found him in his office holding a gun to his head, crying and urging her to return to bed. She called 911 after hearing a gunshot.
In statements to police, the girlfriend said Sheets had been experiencing sleep problems and was stressed by “a male slandering his name.” She also mentioned a recent verbal dispute with his son that left Sheets “devastated."
Co-stars from the show posted tributes on social media, with one noting the importance of seeking help for mental health struggles and another urging law enforcement to pursue the alleged cyberbully. The investigation into the online harassment allegations remains ongoing.
