Apple's $250 Million Siri AI Settlement Awaits Court Approval

Summary

Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement over delayed Siri AI features, with eligible iPhone owners potentially receiving up to $95, while a California judge has yet to give preliminary approval.

Apple agreed in May to a $250 million class-action settlement that addresses claims it misled consumers about the launch of a personalized Siri AI assistant. The settlement covers U.S. customers who bought certain iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. A California court held a hearing on preliminary approval this week, but the judge has not issued a ruling, meaning payouts are unlikely until late 2026 or early 2027 if the settlement is ultimately approved.

The lawsuit stemmed from Apple’s June 2024 preview of new Siri capabilities, marketed as “Apple Intelligence,” which promised on-screen awareness and deeper per-app controls. After the company delayed the feature’s release until March 2025, plaintiffs alleged false advertising. Apple later announced the rebranded “Siri AI” at WWDC 2026 and said it would be available in a public beta later this month, with full rollout expected with iOS 27 in September for iPhone 15 Pro or newer devices.

"We settled to stay focused on delivering the most innovative products and services to our users," a company statement read.

Eligible claimants will receive a $25 payment per device, potentially rising to $95 if fewer claims are filed than anticipated. A settlement website and online claim form are expected to go live in the coming months, and affected customers will be notified by email about 45 days after preliminary approval.
