Search continues for missing K2 Airways Boeing 737 crew after wreckage located off Pakistan coast

Summary

A K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 freighter vanished near Karachi on Tuesday; wreckage was found south of Ormara but the five crew members remain missing as Pakistani authorities conduct a search.

Pakistani authorities are conducting a search-and-rescue operation after a K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 cargo plane disappeared on Tuesday evening. The aircraft, registered AP-BOI, departed Sharjah for Karachi and lost radar and radio contact about 155 nautical miles west of the city at 9:21 p.m. local time, after the crew reported a navigation system problem. Radar data indicated a rapid descent before the signal was lost.

Wreckage from the aircraft was recovered on Wednesday about 53 miles south of Ormara, but no crew members have been found. The five-person crew remains missing.

The Pakistan Navy deployed the frigate PNS Zulfiqar and an ATR aircraft from Turbat, while the Pakistan Air Force also sent aircraft to assist in the search.

Aviation expert Imran Aslam, speaking to local media, said the sudden descent was atypical, noting that an aircraft experiencing engine failure would normally glide rather than drop abruptly.

K2 Airways, which began operations in 2018 and received its first Boeing 737-400SF in July 2024, said on its website that it aims to expand its fleet and operations. Fox News Digital contacted K2 Airways and Boeing for comment but did not receive a response.
