During a Utah preliminary hearing, prosecutors presented vital surveillance video they say captures the suspect fleeing after the September 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Prosecutors introduced compelling surveillance footage at a Utah preliminary hearing that they say clearly shows the man accused of murdering conservative leader Charlie Kirk running across a rooftop and jumping off while holding an object. The video, a key piece of evidence, was shown on the second day of the hearing for 23-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is charged with aggravated murder and other offenses stemming from the September 10, 2025 shooting at Utah Valley University.
State Bureau of Investigation lead investigator David Hull described the footage, noting Robinson’s vehicle entering a campus parking garage, a man in a maroon shirt and shorts walking across campus, purchasing food at a nearby restaurant, and later returning in different clothing with a limp. The suspect is seen rolling over a railing onto the Losee Building roof, then fleeing the scene after the fatal shot that ended Kirk’s life. The evidence paints a clear picture of a calculated escape following a heinous act against a prominent conservative voice.
Hull testified that a rifle was recovered in a wooded area where investigators believe Robinson entered, and that an officer had recorded Robinson’s license plate during the early hours of September 11. The defense, led by attorney Kathy Nester, has aggressively sought to suppress much of the video evidence and to remove the death penalty as a possible sentence, reflecting a typical effort to shield the accused from full accountability. Nester cross-examined Hull, attempting to cast doubt by mentioning another weapon found on campus and the absence of shell casings on the rooftop near the suspected sniper position. She also cited witnesses who described a different individual on the roof and a bald man driving the vehicle seen in earlier footage, but these claims appear to be desperate attempts to muddy the waters.
Robinson has not entered a plea, and his lawyers have repeatedly objected to the video exhibits on grounds including hearsay and alleged editing, arguing that the original videographers have not testified. Despite these procedural objections, the prosecution continues to build a strong case in the pursuit of justice for Charlie Kirk and the conservative community.
