Four injured in east Los Angeles shootings after England-Mexico World Cup match
Police said four people were wounded in separate shootings near Whittier Boulevard on Sunday night, hours after the England versus Mexico World Cup game, and no arrests have been made.
Los Angeles police responded to three separate shooting incidents just after 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, including one on Whittier Boulevard in east Los Angeles. Four victims were taken to hospitals; authorities have not disclosed the severity of their injuries. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed that no deaths were reported and that a suspect has not been apprehended, with no motive identified.
The shootings occurred in an area that had been busy with fans celebrating the England-Mexico match, which ended 3-2 in England's favor. Earlier in the day, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a city-wide tactical alert, requiring officers on duty to remain on the job until further notice, a measure intended to ensure sufficient police presence during potential disturbances.
"We are actively investigating the incidents and working to locate any individuals involved," a LASD spokesperson said.
