A massive crowd in Tehran attended the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with participants openly displaying anti-U.S. and anti-Israel hatred, underscoring the regime’s continued hostility toward the West.
On Monday, throngs of mourners dressed in black poured into Tehran as the flag-draped coffin of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was paraded through the city. The procession, which started at Azadi Square and snaked along a major thoroughfare, included a truck designed to mimic the ornamental grating of an imam’s shrine, a clear nod to the regime’s theocratic propaganda.
State-run television broadcast images of a crowd stretching for kilometers, with officials boasting that the turnout eclipsed even the 2020 funeral of Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani. Authorities, as usual, did not provide an official count, but urged participants to walk slowly and stay near the street edges, highlighting the regime’s obsession with control and order.
The coffin will be transported for about 12 hours before being flown from Mehrabad International Airport to Mashhad, where Khamenei will be buried at the Imam Reza shrine—a site of immense significance for the regime’s power base. Revolutionary Guard General Hasan Hasanzadeh, overseeing the procession, announced that the route would be tightly secured, with streets, airspace, and daily activities suspended for the mourning period, which began Saturday and is expected to end Thursday, demonstrating the regime’s ability to disrupt daily life at will.
Some mourners carried placards and banners calling for the death of U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and an effigy of Trump was paraded along the route, openly celebrating hatred and violence against the West.
"We are not here to say goodbye to him, we are here for revenge," said Fatima Hassan, echoing the regime’s dangerous rhetoric.
"We are here to show that his path will continue, and we will avenge his death against the U.S. and Israel," said Sahar Zaraatgar, another participant, highlighting the regime’s indoctrination of its people.
U.S. authorities have monitored Iranian threats against Trump for years, especially since the 2020 killing of Soleimani. Iran denies plotting to kill the U.S. president, but the regime’s hard-line rhetoric and threats remain ever-present.
Negotiations between the United States and Iran on vital issues such as the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear program, and ending ongoing conflict remain stalled, with talks expected to resume only after the regime completes its elaborate funeral spectacle.
