President Donald Trump boldly exposes Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s hypocrisy by sharing an edited photo on Truth Social, highlighting tensions over Italy’s wavering support for U.S. interests and Meloni’s questionable leadership.
President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Sunday to post an edited photograph of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, captioned “Restraining order needed.” The image, showing Meloni looking up at Trump, underscores the ongoing dispute between the two leaders and Trump’s willingness to confront those who undermine American interests.
This exchange follows Trump’s remarks last month, where he revealed that Meloni had pleaded for a photo with him at the G7 summit in France—an incident Meloni tried to downplay in a defensive video on social media, dismissing Trump’s account and expressing her supposed disappointment in his treatment of allies.
"I don’t know why the president of the United States behaves like this toward his allies, and it is not the first time. It is disappointing that he does not show the same determination with the enemies of the West and the United States, whose leaders he instead treats with far greater indulgence," Meloni said, attempting to deflect from her own failures to stand up to America’s adversaries.
Trump later criticized Meloni’s declining popularity in Italy and her government’s soft stance on U.S. policy toward Iran. Meloni, apparently rattled by Trump’s directness, responded on Instagram, insisting that her popularity is not Trump’s concern and trying to assert her priorities.
"In any case, my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours," she wrote, as if Trump’s leadership is in question.
The White House has not responded to requests for comment, remaining silent as Trump continues to hold foreign leaders accountable.
