Summary

President Donald Trump shared a digitally altered photo of Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni with a caption suggesting a restraining order, continuing a public dispute between the two leaders.

President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform on Sunday to share an edited photograph of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, adding the caption “Restraining order needed.” The image shows Meloni appearing to look upward at Trump, implying an ongoing personal conflict.

The exchange follows comments made by Trump last month, in which he claimed Meloni had begged for a photo with him at the G7 summit in France. Meloni responded in a video posted to social media, describing Trump’s statements as “completely made-up” and expressing disappointment in his behavior toward allies.

"I don’t know why the president of the United States behaves like this toward his allies, and it is not the first time. It is disappointing that he does not show the same determination with the enemies of the West and the United States, whose leaders he instead treats with far greater indulgence," Meloni said.

Trump later criticized Meloni’s popularity in Italy and Italy’s stance on the United States’ policy toward Iran. Meloni replied on Instagram, emphasizing that defending her country’s national interest is her priority and that her popularity is not a matter for Trump to comment on.

"In any case, my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours," she wrote.

The White House has not responded to requests for comment.
