Spike Chunsoft pushes Danganronpa 2x2 launch to early 2027, adds 35-hour "Slayhem" scenario
The updated Danganronpa 2x2, featuring a new 35-hour "Slayhem" mode and visual upgrades, has been delayed to early 2027 and will release on multiple platforms.
Spike Chunsoft announced at its Anime Expo panel that the upcoming Danganronpa 2x2, a re-release of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with added content, will now launch in early 2027, pushed back from its original 2026 schedule. The package includes a new alternate scenario titled "Slayhem" mode, which runs about 35 hours—approximately five hours longer and 20% more content than the original game. The company said the new story’s size is "on par" with the original, featuring different victims and culprits while retaining the core premise.
Footage shown at the panel highlighted upgraded backgrounds, an overworld map and refreshed character sprites. Danganronpa 2x2 will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The original version will also receive visual enhancements and higher production values.
A limited "Psycho Tropical Vacation Package" will accompany the release, containing a reversible Psycho Tropical hat, 3-inch Monokuma and Monomi figures, a soundtrack and a clamshell-style box. Voice casting updates were noted: Kinuta Ōshiro will voice Monomi, replacing the late Takako Sasuga, and Wasabi Mizuta will voice Monokuma, succeeding the late TARAKO.
The Danganronpa franchise, originally launched on PSP in 2012, has since been ported to multiple platforms and expanded into manga, anime series, specials and an OVA. The Danganronpa Decadence collection, which bundles several titles, was released physically for Switch in North America and Europe in December 2021.
