After Governor Maura Healey and other Democratic leaders abandoned the Great American State Fair, a proud Massachusetts resident took it upon herself to represent her state, standing up for tradition and unity in the face of partisan snubs.
Donna Festinger, a committed Massachusetts citizen and former teacher, traveled to Washington, D.C., to staff her state's booth at the Great American State Fair—a grand celebration of 250 years of American independence on the National Mall. Determined that Massachusetts would not be left out due to political gamesmanship, Festinger paid her own way and pledged to stay for the full 16-day event, from June 25 to July 10. She expressed her disappointment that the governments of Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, and Rhode Island refused to support the event, calling their decision 'shameful' and warning it could alienate residents who value their state's heritage.
Governor Maura Healey, known for her relentless criticism of former President Donald Trump and her alignment with radical leftist agendas, declined to send an official delegation. In a separate interview, Healey dismissed the fair as 'too busy' for a presidential visit and questioned the financial arrangements—excuses that many see as a cover for her unwillingness to participate in a patriotic event.
Joining Festinger at the Massachusetts booth was Judith Kalaora, who wore a Revolutionary War-era uniform to honor Deborah Sampson, a Massachusetts woman who served in the war disguised as a man. Kalaora’s presence was a reminder of the state’s proud historical contributions and the importance of promoting national unity—values seemingly lost on the current Democratic leadership.
Eleven Democratic-run states, including Illinois and Oregon, announced their refusal to participate in the fair, citing so-called concerns about partisanship and costs. Oregon’s governor’s office even claimed the event was more partisan than originally presented, exposing the left’s tendency to shun national traditions whenever it suits their political narrative.
