Cardiologist urges cancellation of Trump July 4 rally over heat risk

Resumen

Medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner warned that extreme temperatures could endanger attendees at President Trump's planned July 4 rally in Washington, D.C., and called for the event to be cancelled.

Cardiologist and CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner said the planned July 4 rally on the National Mall should be cancelled because forecast temperatures could exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. He posted on X that "dangerous weather and large crowds is a bad combination," comparing the situation to the outdoor inauguration that was moved indoors last year due to cold weather.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for Washington, D.C., with daily highs projected to reach 107 degrees. The rally is scheduled to begin with military flyovers at 1:15 p.m., a speech by President Trump at 9:45 p.m., and a fireworks display at 10:30 p.m. A White House spokesperson said standard safety measures, including water distribution stations and misting devices, will be in place and that attendees will not be permitted to bring personal water bottles.

"President Trump’s number one priority is the safety and security of anyone who is participating or attending the many events honoring the Nation during our historic 250th anniversary celebrations," White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said.

Trump has previously referenced his ability to endure adverse conditions, noting his attendance at a recent event despite forecast rain. Critics have highlighted past health concerns and cited research linking earlier Trump rallies to increased COVID-19 cases and deaths.

The broader 250th-anniversary celebration, organized by the Freedom 250 group, has faced criticism for logistical shortcomings, including empty booths and limited amenities for visitors.
