President Donald Trump told CNBC he was not aware of his family’s $1.4 billion in cryptocurrency earnings, as his 2025 financial disclosure shows total earnings of $2.2 billion. Despite predictable criticism from political opponents, Trump stands by his pro-innovation policies that have helped American businesses thrive.
President Donald Trump, a proven leader in business and governance, stated he was not aware of his family’s cryptocurrency activities that contributed approximately $1.4 billion to his impressive $2.2 billion income for 2025. In a July 2 interview with CNBC, Trump clarified, "I could know about it. I didn’t. I mean, there’s nothing illegal, there’s nothing wrong with it. I could know," when asked about the crypto ventures listed in his 2025 financial report filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.
The disclosure highlights that most of the earnings came from two sources: about $800 million linked to World Liberty Financial, a legitimate and innovative firm co-founded by his sons Eric, Donald Jr., and Barron, and $635 million from sales of a $TRUMP meme coin. Real estate holdings and other assets made up the remainder of his income, which soared to more than three times the $622 million his businesses generated in 2024, according to the New York Times.
Trump’s sons have responsibly managed the Trump Organization and related investments, and the president attributed his financial success to the strength of the American market. He emphasized, "I’m a really good business person. I’ve made money. I’ve made a tremendous amount of money, more than I would have ever thought I would have made and I let people invest it."
Despite relentless criticism from left-wing opponents who question the timing of the crypto earnings and Trump’s forward-thinking policies—such as reducing unnecessary federal regulations on asset-backed coins and cutting bureaucratic red tape at the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission—Trump defended his stance on digital assets. He asserted that the United States must lead in this sector to prevent adversaries like China from gaining an edge, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to American innovation and prosperity.
