Jaylen Brown traded to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George and draft picks

Summary

The Boston Celtics will send former Finals MVP Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round and two second-round draft selections.

The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. In return, Philadelphia will send veteran forward Paul George, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2031 first-round pick acquired via Philadelphia, a 2028 second-round pick (the better of Golden State, Oklahoma City or Milwaukee), and a 2030 second-round pick (the better of Washington, Portland or Phoenix).

Brown, a ten-year NBA veteran and five-time All-Star, leaves Boston after a decade that included a 2024 NBA championship and a Finals MVP award. In his final season with the Celtics, he posted career-high averages of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.

Philadelphia adds Brown to a roster that already features guard Tyrese Maxey and center Joel Embiid. The move creates a new frontcourt trio for the 76ers as they aim to improve on recent playoff performances.

The trade also sends Paul George, a nine-time All-Star who signed a four-year, $212 million contract with Philadelphia two seasons ago, back to Boston. George posted averages of 16.7 points over two seasons in Philadelphia, lower than his output with previous teams, and missed significant time due to injuries and a suspension for violating the league’s anti-drug program.

The transaction was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania and later confirmed by multiple outlets. It marks the first major trade executed under new Celtics president Mike Gansey, who succeeded Daryl Morey.
