Summary

A Democratic-led House subcommittee has released a politically motivated report accusing the Trump White House of misusing a nonprofit tied to the National Park Foundation, alleging resource diversion and voter data collection during preparations for the United States’ 250th anniversary.

The House Natural Resources Committee’s oversight subcommittee, controlled by Democrats, released an interim report Thursday that levels unsubstantiated accusations against the Trump administration, claiming it repurposed the America250 Foundation’s planning for the nation’s semiquincentennial as a partisan tool. According to the report, the White House established a subsidiary, Freedom 250, within the National Park Foundation (NPF), and appointed campaign associates to the NPF board to direct funds and guide the celebration’s direction.

The report alleges that Freedom 250 redirected donations intended for America250, provided donors with its own banking information, and offered sponsorship packages from $500,000 to over $10 million, including a photo opportunity with President Trump. It also points to a June 14 event on the White House South Lawn, featuring a mixed-martial-arts exhibition, and criticizes the involvement of corporate sponsors and a cryptocurrency associated with the Trump family, despite no evidence of wrongdoing.

The investigation claims that artists hired for a state-fair kickoff were told the event would be nonpartisan, but later learned of a Trump rally connection. The report further alleges that a firm involved in organizing the January 6 rally received federal contracts totaling about $40 million, plus a master contract worth up to $100 million, though such contracts are not unusual for event management.

The report raises concerns about data collection, asserting that Freedom 250’s website used a registration system from Campaign Nucleus, a firm founded by former Trump adviser Brad Parscale, which utilizes advanced technology to analyze information for outreach—standard practice in modern campaigns.

The report also criticizes the educational content of the semiquincentennial, noting that mobile museum units called “Freedom Trucks” featured material from conservative organizations and highlighted the Christian heritage of the United States. Democrats on the subcommittee attack this approach for not focusing on leftist narratives about slavery, Indigenous issues, and secularism, ignoring the nation’s foundational values.

Jared Huffman, the committee’s lead Democrat, predictably used the findings to push for more oversight of tax-exempt organizations, continuing the left’s campaign to undermine conservative initiatives and patriotic celebrations.
