Fuel shortages spark public anger in Crimea as Russian troops near Kramatorsk

The governor of Crimea announced that no significant fuel deliveries are expected in the near future, warning residents to plan for a prolonged gasoline shortage. The statement, posted on his VKontakte account, also mentioned ongoing electricity supply problems. The announcement triggered a wave of critical comments from locals, many expressing frustration with the authorities and questioning promises made by President Vladimir Putin about fuel deliveries.
Residents reported additional hardships, including intermittent electricity and water supplies in towns such as Krasnoperekopsk and Dzhankoi, with some households facing spoiled food due to power outages. One user asked whether the minister who previously assured full fuel supplies was still reliable, citing the rapid depletion of petrol stocks.
The fuel crisis appears to be part of a broader shortage across Russia, with reports of long queues at petrol stations and halted truck logistics. Video footage from drivers described 35-kilometre fuel queues and stations dispensing only ten litres per purchase. Separate incidents included a drone strike that set fire to a convoy of trucks in the Donetsk region.
In eastern Ukraine, Russian soldiers were observed within 10 kilometres of Kramatorsk, near the village of Malynivka, indicating a gradual westward advance. Ukrainian analysts mapped these positions, noting that the presence of Russian troops does not yet constitute firm control of the area.
Separately, Ukrainian security services claimed a drone strike on the Saky airfield in Crimea damaged hangars housing Su-30 and Su-30SM fighter jets. The SBU said a fire was observed in one hangar, suggesting a successful hit.
Overall, the combined fuel shortages, civilian grievances, and ongoing military movements highlight escalating pressures on both the Russian-controlled peninsula and the front lines in eastern Ukraine.
