China launches world’s fastest supercomputer amid U.S. export limits
China unveiled the LineShine supercomputer, claiming it is the fastest globally despite operating without GPUs and under U.S. technology restrictions.
China announced that its new LineShine supercomputer has achieved the top ranking in the world’s fastest systems list, even though it does not rely on graphics processing units. The development comes as the United States maintains export controls that limit Chinese access to advanced semiconductor components.
"LineShine demonstrates that we can achieve world-leading performance with home-grown technologies," a spokesperson for the project said. The achievement is seen as a response to ongoing geopolitical tensions over high-performance computing, with analysts noting that China has been investing heavily in domestic chip design and alternative architectures to circumvent external restrictions.
