Rumored iPhone Fold May Feature Smaller Cover Display Than Competitors
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone in late 2026, with leaks suggesting a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.8-inch internal display—smaller than some rival devices.
Apple is expected to enter the foldable smartphone market in the second half of 2026, according to a recent report from TrendForce. The anticipated device, often referred to as the iPhone Fold, is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. This would make the external display smaller than those on competing models such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which reportedly has a 6.5-inch cover screen, and even the first-generation Pixel Fold's 5.8-inch outer display.
The compact size of the iPhone Fold's cover screen may align it with devices like the original Pixel Fold or OPPO Find N2, both known for their smaller external displays. While a smaller cover screen could improve one-handed usability, it may limit quick-access functionality compared to larger alternatives.
Additional rumors indicate that Apple may opt for a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of Face ID and include dual 48MP cameras. The device is also expected to use a custom titanium-and-liquid-metal hinge to enhance durability without significantly increasing weight. Pricing details remain uncertain, and the final specifications could change before launch.
