Giraffe Missing from Texas Ranch Found After Two Weeks
A giraffe that disappeared from Cedar Hollow Ranch in Leakey, Texas, was located on June 26 and is reported to be healthy.
A giraffe that went missing from Cedar Hollow Ranch near Leakey, Texas, was located on June 26, according to Real County Sheriff Nathan Johnson, who announced the find on social media. The animal, estimated to be three to four years old, has been at the ranch since May and was spotted during an aerial search conducted by a local aviation company.
Sheriff Johnson told NBC affiliate WOAI that the giraffe, named Gracie, appears "fat and happy" and described her as having a "catch-me-if-you-can" attitude. Ranch manager Vick Jones said the animal likely strayed onto adjacent Hill Country land after feeding on tree limbs and crossing the ranch’s gate.
Jones offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Graney’s recovery. The ranch, which houses hundreds of exotic species such as impalas and Nubian ibexes, is preparing to return the giraffe to its enclosure.
