A commemorative passport edition showing President Donald Trump will be available from July 6, with applications limited to in-person appointments at the Washington passport agency.
The U.S. State Department announced that a special-edition passport displaying President Donald Trump’s image will be offered beginning July 6, subject to availability. Applicants must schedule an in-person appointment at the Washington passport agency, as the document cannot be requested online or by mail. Additional acceptance events for the commemorative passport will be added to the agency’s website.
The passport design includes a photo of Trump at the Resolute Desk with the Declaration of Independence behind him and his signature beneath the image. The State Department noted that the design is a one-time commemorative issue and did not confirm whether applicants can decline the special edition when applying in person.
Current U.S. passports feature historic scenes such as the Moon landing and national symbols like the Statue of Liberty. This marks the first instance of a sitting president appearing on a U.S. passport. The commemorative version was first announced in April with a different layout that showed only Trump’s face and a gold-colored signature.
"The U.S.A.'s New Passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be good!'" Trump wrote on his social-media platform, although the phrase does not appear on the passport images he shared.
The release follows other initiatives to place Trump’s likeness on American memorabilia, including a planned commemorative gold coin and proposals to feature his signature on banknotes.
