Indiana Fever confirm Caitlin Clark will miss Saturday game against Sparks

Summary

Coach Stephanie White said guard Caitlin Clark is out for the Fever's Saturday matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks and did not specify the length of her absence.

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters on Friday that guard Caitlin Clark will not play in Saturday's home game against the Los Angeles Sparks. White said there is "no indication" of how much time Clark will miss, but noted that the team's next game on July 5 provides an opportunity for treatment and recovery.

Clark left the third quarter of Wednesday's 111-109 loss to the Phoenix Mercury after sustaining a back injury while driving to the basket. In that game, Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas was seen pressing a fist into Clark's throat and stepping over her; Thomas was not called for a foul but received a one-game suspension from the league.

Clark is averaging 21.2 points, 8.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 three-pointers per game, ranking second on the Fever in scoring and second league-wide in assists. She missed one game earlier this season due to injury and previously missed most of the 2023 campaign because of quad and groin issues.

Drafted first overall in 2024, Clark earned Rookie of the Year honors after posting 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. The Fever reached the semifinals last season without her for much of the year, falling to the Las Vegas Aces. The team currently holds a 10-8 record and has more than half the season remaining.
