Trump warns of communist threat after New York primary wins

Ամփոփում

President Donald Trump used his social-media platform to claim a communist threat in the United States following recent primary victories by candidates linked to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he sees an imminent communist threat to the United States after several candidates supported by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won House primaries. Trump wrote, "America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!" and later added, "The game is on. Enjoy watching!" He also shared a 1960 interview with former President John F. Kennedy in which Kennedy discussed the communist danger, noting the need for laws to protect the nation.

Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has been repeatedly labeled a “communist” by Trump, who suggested the mayor had “pulled through 3 solid Communists” and received applause from the media. Trump claimed that becoming a communist is “easy” and that the ideology has never succeeded.

Democratic commentators reacted to the primary results. CNN host Van Jones said, "The roof is collapsing on the Democratic Party establishment," describing the outcomes as a battle between the party’s establishment and insurgent forces. Democratic strategist James Carville called for a “schism” within the party, stating, "And I actually do think it’s time for Democrats to talk the ‘s’ word: schism."

Senator Bernie Sanders praised the primary winners, writing on X, "Together, we are creating a grassroots progressive movement that will defeat the Oligarchs."

The White House has not responded to requests for comment.
