Micah Lasher Wins Democratic Primary for Manhattan Congressional Seat, Defeating Jack Schlossberg

State Assembly member Micah Lasher won the Democratic primary for New York's Manhattan congressional district, defeating Jack Schlossberg, a grandson of former President John F. Kennedy. Lasher, who has worked for longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler and was supported by Governor Kathy Hochul and other members of the city’s Democratic establishment, said his victory will help "revamp and recharge the Democratic Party in Washington" and bring "bold new ideas to improve the lives of struggling Americans."

Schlossberg, 33, thanked supporters at a Manhattan venue and argued that the party needs younger and more diverse candidates who can speak plainly about cost-of-living issues and the Constitution. He emphasized that his campaign was funded by family wealth, allowing independence from traditional fundraising.

The race featured several other candidates, including Alex Bores, a former tech engineer who positioned himself against powerful artificial-intelligence interests, and attorney George Conway, a former Republican who had previously helped found an anti-Trump organization. Endorsements were split, with Rep. Nadler backing Lasher and former Rep. Carolyn Maloney endorsing Bores.

Democrats comprise about two-thirds of registered voters in the district, giving Lasher a strong position heading into the November general election.
