Julius Randle Traded to Brooklyn Nets in Three-Team Deal Involving Bulls
The Minnesota Timberwolves have sent forward Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a three-team trade that also moves Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls.
The Minnesota Timberwolves traded forward Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team transaction that also sent center Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls, according to NBA trade reports. The deal, confirmed by league sources, includes draft assets and marks Randle's second season with Minnesota ending after the team’s second-round playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
Randle, who joined the Timberwolves in 2024 after a trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks, posted averages of 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game last season, shooting 48.1 percent from the field. During the recent playoff series, his production fell to 12.8 points per game with a field-goal percentage of 34.2 percent.
The move comes as Randle approaches the final year of his contract, which includes a $35.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season. Minnesota is reportedly seeking to obtain value before the option potentially expires. The trade also fulfills Chicago’s interest in acquiring additional draft capital and roster pieces.
"We believe this transaction aligns with our long-term strategy and provides flexibility for the future," a Timberwolves spokesperson said.
Randle, a former All-NBA selection, is expected to bring veteran experience to the Nets as they look to bolster their frontcourt for the upcoming season.
