Senators trade captain Brady Tkachuk to Panthers for three first-round picks

Summary

Ottawa sent forward Brady Tkachuk to Florida in exchange for three first-round selections and a second-round pick, reuniting him with his brother on the Panthers.

Ottawa announced Sunday that it has traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers. The deal sends Florida’s No. 9 pick in this year’s draft, the No. 25 pick acquired from Seattle, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2030 second-round pick to the Senators. Tkachuk, 26, has two seasons remaining on a seven-year, $57.5 million contract that includes a full no-movement clause. He reportedly provided Ottawa with a four-team list of preferred destinations, which included Florida, Vegas, Carolina and Minnesota.

The move reunites Tkachuk with his older brother, Matthew, who has been a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Panthers. Brady Tkachuk is eligible for a contract extension after the 2026-27 season. In 572 NHL games, he has recorded 213 goals and 463 points, posting a career-high 37 goals and 74 points in the 2023-24 season.

Ottawa’s playoff record with Tkachuk includes two first-round exits in the past two years, losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs in six games in 2024-25 and being swept by the Carolina Hurricanes this season. The Senators will now hold three first-round selections in the upcoming draft, including the No. 32 pick restored by the league in March.

Tkachuk previously expressed frustration with persistent trade rumors, describing them as a distraction. He also addressed a fabricated TikTok video that falsely attributed offensive remarks to him, stating the audio was not his voice.

Matthew Tkachuk was traded to Florida from the Calgary Flames in 2022 and helped the Panthers win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025. The brothers now look to continue their success together in South Florida.
