Trump unveils Qatar-gifted Air Force One jet ahead of July 4 flyover

Summary

President Donald Trump formally introduced a newly refurbished Boeing 747, provided by Qatar, which will lead a Independence Day flyover and later be transferred to his presidential library foundation.

President Donald Trump formally introduced a newly refurbished Boeing 747 at Joint Base Andrews on Friday, saying it will lead a ceremonial flyover over Washington on July 4 to mark the United States' 250th anniversary. The aircraft, painted in a red, white and dark-blue scheme, replaces the lighter-blue livery of the previous model and is intended for use during the anniversary events.

"Nobody tops this one, and that’s the way we have to have it for our country. Nobody even comes close," Trump said.

"The likes of which we’ve never seen before," he added, describing the planned flyover involving other military planes.

The Air Force described the jet, designated VC-25B Bridge, as a "secure, modified executive platform" ready for initial commissioning flights. Officials said the new plane will reduce demand on the existing fleet of presidential aircraft.

The aircraft, estimated at $400 million, was gifted by the Qatari government, prompting bipartisan criticism over potential security and ethical concerns. Experts noted that modifications and security upgrades could exceed $1 billion. The White House indicated the jet will be transferred to the Trump presidential library foundation after the president leaves office.
