The Reflecting Pool on the National Mall, recently enhanced with a striking new dark-blue coating, has taken on a greenish hue as algae naturally proliferated after a spell of hot weather. The Interior Department reported that the National Park Service is proactively treating the water with innovative nanobubble ozone technology and hydrogen peroxide, ensuring no harm to marine life or the environment.

The renovation, conducted through a contract valued at more than $13 million, faced opposition from activist groups like the Cultural Landscape Foundation, which attempted to block the repainting in court. During a congressional hearing, Burgum confidently affirmed that all required bidding rules were followed, dismissing baseless legal challenges.
