Norwegian royal's son sentenced to four years for two rapes

Summary

Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was convicted of two rapes and other offences, receiving a four-year prison term and compensation orders.

Oslo District Court sentenced Marius Borg Høiby, 29, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to four years in prison after finding him guilty of two counts of rape and several related offences. The judges cleared him of two additional rape charges but convicted him of raping a woman on the Crown Prince’s Skaugum estate in 2018 and another woman in Oslo in 2024. He was also found guilty of abusing an ex-girlfriend, influencer Nora Haukland, and causing serious bodily harm to a partner in the Frogner district.

Prosecutors had sought a seven-year-plus sentence, while the defence had requested 18 months and indicated an intention to appeal. The court also ordered Høiby to pay 640,000 kroner in compensation to four victims, including Haukland, whose name could be disclosed.

The royal palace declined to comment on the verdict, noting that the matter has been addressed by the courts. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who is on a lung-transplant list due to pulmonary fibrosis, has not been publicly discussed in relation to the case. Høiby’s lawyers are expected to decide whether to pursue an appeal of the four-year term.
