Samsung leak hints at larger, shorter Z Fold 8 and distinct lineup

Summary

A leak of screen protector mock-ups suggests the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 will adopt a wider, shorter form factor, while the Z Flip 8 is expected to remain largely unchanged.

A recent leak attributed to tipster Ice Universe shows mock-ups of screen protectors for Samsung's forthcoming foldable devices: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The images indicate that the standard Fold 8 will feature a wider, shorter chassis, differentiating it more clearly from the Flip series. Samsung is also expected to unveil the new models at its Unpacked event on July 22, alongside the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2.

According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have an improved display crease, weigh about 201 grams and house a 4,800 mAh battery. The Z Flip 8 is projected to retain most of its predecessor's design, with a new hinge that could make the folded thickness 0.02 inches thinner and a modest weight reduction. The flip phone is rumored to use the Exynos 2600 chipset in South Korea and Europe, while U.S. and other markets may receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.

"The Fold 8’s dimensions appear to be a direct response to competing foldable designs," the leak commentary noted.

Industry analysts note that Samsung faces growing competition in the foldable market from brands such as Vivo and Xiaomi, which are also expected to launch similar devices soon.
