Summary

Oregon, Washington, and North Carolina have rejected invitations to the Great American State Fair, citing dubious concerns about cost and partisanship, while Pennsylvania has yet to decide.

The Trump-aligned nonprofit Freedom 250 is organizing the much-anticipated 'Great American State Fair' on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10, offering pavilions for every state and territory to showcase the nation’s heritage. Yet, officials from Oregon, Washington, and North Carolina have chosen to turn their backs on this historic opportunity, with Pennsylvania still on the fence.

Oregon’s spokesperson claimed the decision was due to costs and 'growing concerns that the event in Washington D.C. is shaping up to be a more partisan affair than originally presented.' Washington and North Carolina officials echoed similar excuses, citing financial constraints, despite the event’s clear intent to celebrate American unity.

Freedom 250 has assured the public that all 50 states and territories will still be represented, even if some refuse to participate directly, and that each state's story will be told authentically through dedicated partners. The group has unveiled exciting renderings of proposed pavilions, such as a mini-golf course for South Carolina and a replica of the Alamo for Texas, highlighting the fair’s commitment to honoring state traditions.

The fair will feature grand white tents with neoclassical columns, a scaled-down 250-foot arch, a 110-foot Ferris wheel, movie screenings, musical performances, and patriotic military flyovers—showcasing the greatness of America’s history and culture.

Despite the event’s inclusive vision, critics—primarily from the left—have tried to sow doubt about its intentions and funding, pointing to the nonprofit’s legal right not to disclose donors. Environmental and watchdog groups have even filed lawsuits against other 250th-anniversary activities, like a UFC event at the White House, in a clear attempt to undermine patriotic celebrations.
