Israeli airstrikes hit Tyre after evacuation warning, killing eight

Summary

Israeli forces bombed the Lebanese city of Tyre, causing at least eight deaths and dozens of injuries, hours after urging residents to leave and following Iran's warning of retaliation.

Israeli airstrikes struck the southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Tuesday, killing at least eight people and wounding 32, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The attacks followed an evacuation order issued by the Israeli military, which urged residents, including those in the Christian quarter, to move north of the Zahrani River for their safety.

"Urgent warning to the residents of the city of Tyre, including the Christian quarter, and the camps and surrounding neighborhoods. For your safety, we ask you to immediately evacuate your homes and move north of the Zahrani River," wrote Avichay Adraee, the Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, on X.

The strikes came a day after Iran warned that it would resume attacks on Israel if the Israeli offensive in Lebanon continued. Iranian officials had signaled a readiness to strike again, raising regional tensions.

Lebanese state media reported heavy traffic as residents fled the city. The Israeli military has not commented on the specific casualties.

The incident adds to a series of escalations in the region, with both sides exchanging threats amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Syria and elsewhere.
