Six Injured in Stabbing at New York Penn Station Ahead of NBA Finals
Six people were wounded in a stabbing at Penn Station on Sunday evening, and a suspect was arrested as the city prepared for the NBA Finals game at nearby Madison Square Garden.
Six people were injured in a stabbing at New York's Penn Station on Sunday evening, authorities said, just hours before thousands of fans are expected at Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the busy rail hub that serves Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit and city subway lines.
Paramedics reported one victim with serious injuries, two with moderate injuries and two with minor injuries; all five were taken to Bellevue Hospital. A sixth person, whose condition was not immediately known, was transported to another hospital.
Amtrak police arrested a suspect in connection with the attack, but have not released the individual's identity or details about potential charges.
The stabbing took place as New York prepared for the first NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden since 1999, a matchup between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs that is expected to draw large crowds. Security measures involving the Secret Service, the NYPD and other agencies are in place for the event, though officials have not indicated whether the incident will affect those plans.
