Iran launches missiles at Israel, prompting nationwide alerts and school closures
Iran fired missiles toward northern Israel after an Israeli strike on Hezbollah sites in Beirut; all projectiles were intercepted, and Israel imposed nationwide restrictions including school closures.
Iran launched several missiles toward northern Israel on Sunday evening, shortly after Israel struck Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s Dahieh district. The missiles were intercepted by Israel’s air defenses, but the Home Front Command reported additional launches and issued a precautionary alert to residents in the affected areas.
In response, Israel tightened its defensive posture nationwide. Schools were ordered to close on Monday, public gatherings were limited, and beaches were closed to the public. Under the updated Home Front Command policy, outdoor gatherings may include up to 200 people and indoor events up to 500, provided participants can reach a protected space quickly during an alert.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened senior defense officials, who assessed that Iran seeks a measured response without “breaking the rules.” An Israeli official warned that Iran “can forget about Israel letting this pass,” adding that “the response will be harsh.”
The Israel Defense Forces said its defensive systems were on high alert and that senior commanders were monitoring the situation closely. Mobile phones in the relevant regions received precautionary directives as the missile threat was identified.
