Police investigate shooting that injured at least 12 at Toledo street festival
A gunfight near the Old West End Festival in Toledo left a dozen people wounded, including two in critical condition, and authorities are still searching for suspects.
Gunfire broke out Saturday near the Old West End Festival in Toledo, Ohio, wounding at least 12 people ranging in age from 14 to 61. Police said the incident appeared to involve at least two shooters who were likely firing at each other. No arrests had been made by early Sunday, and investigators asked anyone who attended the event to share any photos or video that might help identify the perpetrators.
Two victims remain in critical condition, while the others received treatment at local hospitals. Fire Chief Allison Armstrong noted that road closures and traffic delayed ambulance access, but all patients were transported from the scene within an hour.
Eyewitness Kevin Berry, who was listening to live music in a nearby arboretum, described hearing multiple shots and seeing a firearm dropped less than 15 meters away. He said he helped locate several injured individuals and assisted emergency responders.
Governor Mike DeWine issued a statement expressing concern over the violence and emphasizing that summer festivals should be safe for families. City safety director George Kral said officials were consulting with festival organizers about whether the event would continue through the weekend.
