Former CIA Official Charged with Theft of Gold Bars
A former CIA official has been charged with stealing gold bars valued at over $40 million from the federal government. David Rush faces serious allegations of embezzlement and is currently in custody pending a hearing.
A former senior CIA official has been charged with the theft of more than 300 gold bars estimated to be worth over $40 million. David Rush was arrested last week in Virginia after federal officials uncovered evidence of embezzlement.
According to an affidavit from an FBI agent, Rush requested a significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses. However, some of these funds were found in a storage space near his office, raising questions about their intended use. Following a search of his home on May 18, authorities seized a substantial amount of gold, approximately $2 million in cash, and numerous luxury watches. The FBI stated there is probable cause to believe Rush knowingly misappropriated government property for personal gain.
Details regarding Rush's role at the CIA remain unclear, and his lawyer has not provided any statements. The FBI is collaborating with both the CIA and the Department of Justice in the ongoing investigation.
The affidavit also suggests that Rush misrepresented his educational and military background, falsely claiming to have graduated from two universities and to have been a Navy pilot. Instead, it was revealed he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 2004 to 2015 without any pilot evaluations.
Rush is currently in custody and is scheduled for a hearing on Friday in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia.
