Apple Reportedly Plans Crease-Free Display for Foldable iPhone with Samsung Supply
Apple is expected to use a custom 'crease-free' display supplied by Samsung Display for its upcoming foldable iPhone, with mass production targeted for late 2026, according to analyst reports.
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a foldable iPhone featuring a 'crease-free' display, with Samsung Display set to supply the panels, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The device is expected to utilize a metal plate, primarily sourced from Fine M-Tec, to distribute and manage the stress caused by folding, helping to eliminate visible creases on the inner screen.
Kuo noted that Samsung's current Galaxy Z Fold 7 still shows a visible crease, suggesting that Samsung Display is developing a custom solution specifically for Apple. It remains unclear why similar technology has not been implemented in Samsung's own foldable devices, which also use metal plates from Fine M-Tec.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported that the foldable iPhone would feature a higher-quality hinge, resulting in a nearly invisible crease when unfolded. Kuo indicated that Apple is targeting mass production for the second half of 2026, potentially setting the stage for a launch next year.
According to Kuo, the device will include a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.5-inch outer display, two rear cameras, one front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID sensors. The foldable iPhone is expected to measure 4.5mm thick when unfolded and between 9mm and 9.5mm when folded, making it slightly thicker than Samsung's latest foldable model. Reports of Samsung supplying Apple with these displays have also appeared in South Korean media.
