Analysts Set Bitcoin Price Targets Above $130,000 Amid Institutional Buying

Summary

Bitcoin reached a new all-time high this week, with analysts projecting further gains to over $130,000 as institutional investors continue to drive the rally. Retail participation remains limited, and experts note Bitcoin's market cap is still small compared to major asset classes.

Bitcoin surged to a new all-time high of $122,871 on Coinbase on Monday before retreating below $120,000 in early Tuesday trading, prompting analysts to raise their price targets for the cryptocurrency. Katie Stockton, founder and managing partner at Fairlead Strategies, told CNBC that measured move projections from recent breakouts suggest Bitcoin could reach around $135,000 in the intermediate term, assuming the uptrend continues before any significant correction.

Other analysts echoed similar forecasts. Markus Thielen, head of research at 10x Research, said, "Based on the July 10 breakout signal, which has historically led to an average 20% rally over the following two months, we project Bitcoin could reach $133,000." Thielen also maintains a $160,000 year-end target. Nick Ruck, director at LVRG Research, noted that investors are watching $150,000 as the next major level, expressing optimism for continued gains barring unexpected market shocks.

Technical analysts from Cointelegraph identified a short-term target range of $132,000 to $138,000, citing the breakout from a multi-week sideways channel and a "bull flag" pattern as indicators of further upward momentum. The rally has pushed Bitcoin's market capitalization to $2.4 trillion, surpassing Amazon to become the world's fifth-largest global asset. However, James Lavish, co-founder of the Bitcoin Opportunity Fund, pointed out that Bitcoin remains small compared to asset classes like gold, equities, real estate, and bonds.

Despite the sharp rise, retail investor activity remains subdued. Nic Puckrin, founder of The Coin Bureau, said in a note that the current rally is largely driven by institutional capital, with typical signs of retail involvement such as increased search traffic and crypto app downloads still absent. Puckrin suggested retail participation may not pick up until Bitcoin approaches $150,000.
